Hartness Home
“One day we’re gonna live there.” These were the words jokingly spoken by Dr. Stanley Hartness to his wife, Beth, almost twenty-five years ago. Little did he know that his words would come to pass upon his retirement from the practice of medicine.
Dr. and Mrs. Hartness looked forward to the rewards of retirement.
To them those rewards consisted of selling their home of decades and moving to Jackson. Jackson would hold for them the opportunity to see their children and grandchildren at a moment’s notice, read to a class of second graders on a bright and early school morning and even audition for Actor’s Playhouse. First on the agenda was finding the perfect place to live.
It did not take long for them to remember the words Dr. Hartness spoke one day as they drove up Interstate 55 on their way back home to Kosciusko... “One day we’re gonna live there” resonated in both of their minds. “There” was the high-rise condominium building named “The Barrington.” A complete contrast from their lifestyle in Kosciusko, this nine floor building relieves them of yard work, gives them a high level view of Jackson and comes complete with a doorman standing at the ready for any needs they may have... although they are not quite used to that sort of help.
There are only a few new items in this two bedroom, two and a half bath home. The Hartness’ sense of family and stories to go along with their interior items dictated that their old become new in their new home.
Kosciusko based Interior Decorator, Leisa Terrell, assisted Beth Hartness in choosing colors and placement of furniture in their Barrington home. The walls in the living room are painted the Sherwin Williams shade of Rye Grass. The library walls seen below are Restrained Gold by Sherwin Williams while the ceiling is a copper faux finish. The tweed sofa in the library was an item found at Interiors Market in the Fondren area of Jackson.
The dining room walls and trim are a tranquil Benjamin Moore hue of Natural Wicker. The metal chandelier is adorned with brown wooden beads adding an interesting focal point. The dining room draperies are a Schumacher embroidered linen.
The master bedroom of the Hartness’ condo is an oasis surrounded by Sherwin Williams’ Restrained Gold. The floor to ceiling drapery panels are a raw silk called Silk Loom. The bedding is somewhat casual and soft with a padded and upholstered headboard. Windows flanked in the same silk draperies as the bedroom surround the small study off of the bedroom.
Leisa and Beth were having difficulty finding a place for one of Beth’s favorite Asian chests. Needing a sink in the powder room they decided to convert the piece into a one-of-a-kind washbowl.
The walls in the powder room are covered in cork. The cork comes in sheets and is specific to wall covering.
